Open, elegant and minimalist-natural – The modern eat-in kitchen as the heart of the home
The open-plan, eat-in kitchen has been very popular for years and has now advanced to the real heart of the home. No wonder: today’s trend strongly favours healthy nutrition and cooking one’s own food. And it is no longer just the younger generation who enjoy cooking and eating in a sociable setting with family or friends – which simply does not work in a separate kitchen. So the demand is for large, open-plan kitchens that integrate perfectly into the living and dining area and offer ample space for lots of people and good conversation.
Minimalist looks in wood and natural stone
Even if the typical country look is no longer Number 1 on the popularity scale for modern eat-in kitchens, natural colours, materials and finishes are naturally still in use in the kitchen – they’re just more minimalist and lighter now. Wood or natural stone, for instance. When it comes to robustness and cleaning, however, both materials pose real disadvantages: they are sensitive to scratching, bumps and stains, often not colour-fast and require painstaking care – all properties one would rather not have in the kitchen.
